first style post

Switching things up bit and having some fun with some hostess style posts for a few reasons. 1. It's fun to dress up 2. I'm constantly looking for new party/ entertaining styles 3. I need to push my limits and work on a few things: a. I'm not that great at accessorizing. I'm not sure if I should just own it and accept that I'm a minimalist when it comes to accessorizing or fight to dress up my arms with some beauty or dangle a necklace? b. I get stuck in a rut of the easy go to's far too easy c. I really want to develop this classic look that translates across day to night. Either way, what I'm really looking for is to have some fun and figure out my style once and for all.

When I shot this with Studio Castillero I had literally just walked in the door (note to self: plan appropriately when someone is taking your picture) and decided to go with it and throw together a quick gathering. I grabbed some of my mad men collection of roly polys (those fancy short and podgy glasses) and a pitcher, filled up the ice bucket with some perfectly square ice cubes, the pitcher with favorite ginger ale and the roly polys with favorite whiskey and well, I guess I had a party for myself, but it was still fun and we enjoyed it all after the shoot.

So, I decided to push my limits and wear something I've never worn before. Tights with shorts! I'm the girl who usually pairs shorts with thigh highs or bare legs, but I know a million people who wear tights with such style. Is it bad? Is it good? I can't decide if it's for me, but it was fun to try. I typically only wear tights on occasion with skirts or dresses, but not because I don't like them, I just think I look funny in them. I dunno, a big block of color to distract from shorts, skirts or shoes?! It seemed weird to me, but I went with it and left on one of my favorite dressy/ casual shirts I was wearing with jeans and wanted to dress it up with sequins and tights, of course! It was my real attempt to go from day to night and my real attempt to step outside my normal. I still don't think I'll gravitate toward throwing on a pair of tights, but at least I won't be hesitant anymore!
